I'm officially on a Maker's Schedule

This is how burnout happens

For the past couple months this was what my schedule looked like. I said yes to a ton of calls and let everyone else set my schedule for me.

Unsurprisingly, this is pretty much the kind of calendar I had in my corporate roles for the longest time.

This means that I always worked around others' schedule. See those gaps on the calendar? Those uneven thirty, sixty, sometimes ninety minute gaps in-between calls? That's called inconsistency. And that inconsistency is what leads to a manager's schedule.

So here's how I'm going to change it up for the next couple months:

  • I have one single block, 10-1pm on Mondays and Tuesdays available.
  • Each day has one single thirty-minute slot. Once it's booked, the day is officially blocked off.
  • If a meeting needs to happen sooner, please send me 2-3 times that work within the block and I will choose one that is adjacent to an existing meeting for that day.
  • If it's critical we meet synchronously outside my availability, please send me your calendar and I will pick something.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this affects my productivity levels 🙌
